Did you know, these are some common signs of over dependency on digital platforms and devices?

Digital dependency may impact
our physical and mental health

We all rely on our digital devices to one degree or another. Whether it’s for seamless connection, capturing moments, entertainment, or simply keeping track of our busy lives, they unlock a world of endless possibilities with just a touch or a swipe.

While computers and hand-held devices are becoming more of necessities than luxuries, moderation in digital dependency is key to achieving balance.

As of early 2024, Malaysia has a staggering 44.55 million active cellular mobile connections and is also home to 28.68 million social media users,  equating to 83.1 percent of the total population. (Source: DataReportal

However, alongside its advantages, there are telltale signs of digital dependency that affects our mental and physical health.

How Can Screens Disrupt Your Sleep?

Most of the digital devices we use every day contain some form of blue light. Cell phones, tablets, laptops, computers, LED TVs, and bulbs all emit blue light which decreases melatonin levels in the body and leads to a more alert state of mind.

That’s why working late, scrolling social media, or watching your favorite show right before bedtime can make it harder for your body to fall asleep. Prolonged exposure to blue light emitted from digital devices can also potentially contribute to vision problems over time.

Digital Eye Strain

Did you know that reading text on a digital device is often harder for the eyes than reading printed text? This is why working on a computer for a few hours may cause symptoms of digital eye strain, but reading a book may not.

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) also known as Digital Eye Strain, is one of the most commonly reported symptoms of too much screen time. Symptoms include dry eyes, redness around the eyes, tired eyes, headaches, blurred vision, plus neck and shoulder pain.

When using any form of digital screen for longer periods of time, the American Optometric Association recommends using the 20-20-20 rule. To use the rule, after every 20 minutes of screen time, take a 20-second break to look at something at least 20 feet away.

Eurobio Bio-Vizmax Benefits

  • Added Zinc and other antioxidants, to help prevent free radical damage.

If you’re experiencing persistent eye discomfort, it’s a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional for advice and potential solutions.

Nerve Discomfort and Musculoskeletal Issues

Looking down at an electronic gadget for long periods can lead to neck and back pain, as well as nerve discomfort in the wrists, and hands while holding electronic devices. Stretching the muscles, ligaments, and tendons in your neck and upper back can cause discomfort in the occipital nerve where the spine connects to the base of the skull. This ultimately causes headaches.

While there are short term options such as massages and heat patches to relieve muscle aches and pains, supplements may provide a relatively novel approach to prevention. Example, nerve pains can be an indication that you are lacking Vitamin Bs.

Eurobio Neurocomin Active Formula Benefits

  • Essential nutrients to support healthy nerves

If you’re experiencing persistent nerve discomfort, it’s a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional for advice and potential solutions.
