With the launch of the APU eSports Malaysia Academy, we believe that we can deliver the best programmes and activities to the students, to prepare them for their future careers in the eSports and gaming industry.”

“The Esports Academy vision is to be one of the leading Esports Academies in the world providing talents not just to our local industry but also to the international scene as well. It is well known that our local players such as Mushi, Chuan, AmTuah and many more have been competing in many international tournament all over the world so we know that our local talents are able to compete with the best in the world. However, without proper guidance and a development program, only a few are able to compete at that level and we hope with APU Esports Malaysia Academy we are able to change that. Our mission is to ensure that the students of the academy are able to master the basic skills, act professionally and are competition ready. We want the academy to be able to raise the standard of our local competitive scene to the next natural level.”

said Dato’ Latt Shariman Abdullah, President of eSM.

The event received wonderful remarks from the attendees,

“ It is about time that we establish a healthy environment for our university and school students to participate in competitive gaming, while instilling soft skills such as communication skills, leadership skills and critical thinking skills within them. We are very glad that eSM and APU came up with this initiative to establish the eSports academy within the university’s environment,”

said Deputy Higher Education Minister, Y.B. Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching

Use this app to skip the waiting room and instantly video call with a doctor

Use this app to skip the waiting room and instantly video call with a doctor

Use this app to skip the waiting room and instantly video call with a doctor

It’s ridiculous to wait an hour for just 5 mins with the doc, so M’sians have this option instead

If you’ve ever been in a panel clinic particularly after a long weekend or when there’s a bug going around, you’ll know the tedium of the inevitable wait before you can see the doctor.

It feels ridiculous to spend so long waiting when sometimes all you need is a quick chat. Even worse is the risk of an added infection picked up from being jostled around an overcrowded waiting room.

But there are alternatives—of course there are, we’re in the digital era now.

Doctor2U is no stranger to using technology to connect patients to doctors at a push of a button. The app’s features already include:

A free live chat with medical professionals

Arranging housecalls with doctors

Video Consultation

Medication delivery to users’ doorsteps.

Continuing their goal to become a one-stop platform for health-care related services, the Doctor2U team is now rolling out a new feature on their app: video consultation with doctors.

So… who’s it for?

Anyone really. From cold and flu patients, to headaches and skin conditions, allergies and tellingly, sexual health enquiries.

The latter is a doozy, because we’re in an Asian society that still stigmatises such topics. Even scheduling a trip out to a doctor just to talk about that may be a hair-raising challenge for some.

According to Garvy Beh, co-founder of Doctor2U, 40% of their existing live chat enquiries are on sexual health issues. He said,

“Video calling is basically an upgraded feature where it gets even more personalised since the doctor and patient get to see one another face-to-face live.”

“In many cases, patients need answers to where they can get the treatment, and our doctors suggest treatment options for the patients to either get it from BP Healthcare or any other health providers.”

Another use of the video consulting feature would be for explaining lab results and medical reports. Often, patients might prefer to avoid having to travel out to a clinic just to get an explanation.

BP already has a service that allows patients to view their lab results online; getting more information via the Doctor2U app through the live chat or video consultation is a very natural extension.

Building on what works

Currently, Doctor2U has a network of 1000 doctors in place on its Doctor House Call panel nationwide. They’re also in partnership with major insurance providers including Zurich, AIA and Great Eastern as well as many of the large hotel chains in Klang Valley to provide healthcare services for their policyholders and guests.

What they’ve found is that their Doctor House Call customers already save about one hour they would otherwise spend travelling to the clinic or hospital and waiting to see a doctor.

They’re continuously looking into how to improve their services so a video consultation where patients can connect instantly to doctors fits nicely into their plans.

Keegan Flynn, co-founder of Doctor2U told Malaysiakini,

“Our house calls have also led to significant cost savings for customers and the healthcare system by reducing the number of non-emergency trips to the emergency department by up to 50%, and we expect this trend to continue with video calls.”

A little bit more about the service

Doctors on the app are fully certified full-time doctors of BP Healthcare Group and the service is available 24/7.

The payment for video consultation is purely time-based, charged at a fixed rate for 15-minute blocks (RM20 during the day and RM38 at night). This means that you can have multiple consultations with the doctor (say, with a family member or friend who’s in the same room).

Accessing it is a simple 5-step process through the app:

1. Select ‘Video Consultation’ on the home screen

2. Pick a service relating to the symptoms you’re experiencing

3. Key in personal details (name, age & condition)

4. Choose payment option and key in payment details

5. Get connected to a doctor.

For their comfort, users can also choose the gender of the doctor they’re connecting with (either no preference, male, or female).

One possible issue with video calling would be if it’s suddenly cut due to a poor connection. According to Garvy, if the call is dropped, when the user or doctor tries to reconnect, it will continue without any added charges, with an extension to make up for the dropped time.

As an added service, doctors can also prescribe medicine to the patients which can then be delivered right to their homes or picked up from participating pharmacies of their choice.

The downside we can see so far? Unfortunately by law, the doctors aren’t able to issue MCs for video consultations. For now, we still have to physically make the trip out (or get a doctor house call) for that.

You can find out more information about Doctor2U’s video consultation from their website

How Can SMEs Improve Their Operations During The Tough Economy

How Can SMEs Improve Their Operations During The Tough Economy

How Can SMEs Improve Their Operations During The Tough Economy?

Find out how you improve your company management and operations during this poor economy.

According to the Department of Statistics, there was a 0.4 percent marked decrease in the labour market in September 2016 and employment is going to be tougher this year. On top of that, companies like Shell Malaysia and hard disk maker Western Digital Corporation have announced that they would be laying off a combined total of almost 2000 people by 2017.

It is a tough time now, finding the right people while generating more revenue for your business. But the good news is that everyone, including your competitors are in the same boat as you in this bleak economic situation. However, this represents an opportune time to streamline your operations and strengthen the foundation of your company to stay ahead of the competition and thrive later on when the economy gets better.

So how does one even start? There are so many things to tackle but amidst all the distractions that need your attention, there are TWO important questions you need to ask yourself to get the right results.

Question 1

How do I keep my employees engaged in the company? How do I keep them committed to fight for the company’s dream and goals?

Question 2

How can I get my employees to be more productive? How can we focus in execution, execution, execution?

That’s it, just these two questions. But sadly, there are many businesses that forget to answer the questions above. They want to, but aren’t doing so.

Why is that?

Well, we’re busy. Splitting time between generating revenue and administrative matters such as payrolls, approving leaves, being sucked in to the mundane paperwork day after day. No wonder it’s so difficult to focus on the important things.

So now that you know the problem, how can one save time, energy, and resources from all the pesky administrative work and focus on things that matter?

We’ve got an answer for you. Kakitangan.com. Imagine all your administrative work done, just within minutes. Don’t believe us? Here’s how it helps:

1. It saves you both time and cost!

In many companies today, one has to apply for leave through a physical leave form, only to be processed by the HR department manually. Here’s the problem that affects  the employees, the employer, and the poor HR person.

As an employee: The amount of paperwork is terrible, one form needs multiple signatures, has to be done manually, and the worst of all, it takes some time to reach the manager’s desk for that final approval. It’s really a case of not knowing your leave application status at all!

As an employer: Keeping track of each individual’s leave day balance through paperwork is crazy! On top of that, one has to go through the whole list of employees to ensure that there is enough manpower available during that time period.

As the HR person: Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. Data entry is going to be a nightmare.

However, with Kakitangan.com, an employer is able to approve their employees annual leave on their desktop or on mobile with a few simple clicks. The employer has full access to all employee’s leave dates and the best thing about it is that it is synced with the Malaysian public holidays calendar – from Penang all the way to Sabah, Kakitangan.com also syncs each state’s holidays! It even allows us to customize weekends to start on Fridays and Saturdays for businesses in Kelantan and Johor.

This is undoubtedly the best leave management system in Malaysia. The best thing about it? It’s free.

So, there’s no reason not to use Kakitangan.com, especially if your company is still applying for and approving leaves on paper.

Kakitangan.com isn’t just a one trick pony. Besides solving the frustration of applying and approving leaves, Kakitangan.com solves one of the MOST painful and troublesome HR work especially in SMEs: payrolls. Kakitangan.com also has a cloud payroll system and it automatically calculates each employee’s EPF/SOCSO/LHD and issues pay slips. For a SME of 10 people, the cost will shock you. It’s just RM50 per month. Which is just RM1.70 a day, the price of one glass of teh ais!

The real value one gets it the time saved from all the nitty gritty numbers of issuing pay slips. Hours of works turn into minutes and it is probably the easiest and most user-friendly payroll system in town. All your data is backed up on Amazon Web Services, the number one data center in the world. This means that there’s no need to fear when your computer crashes because everything will be backed up, safe, and secure.

2. It makes your employees’ (and yours) lives easier

When my company migrated to use Kakitangan.com, my staff’s feedback has only been positive with the wonderful experience of applying for their leave and getting their payslips on their phone. They told me that they do enjoy a modern company that makes it easier for them.

And there’s more to that! I used to buy medical insurance from an agent, and after a period of time when someone actually gets admitted into the hospital, our HR team had forgotten the insurance coverage for this particular employee. However, since buying medical insurance from Kakitangan.com, my employees, HR team and I can login and view their own insurance coverage with a listing of panel hospitals and the room rates per night! It’s definitely a lifesaver!

Kakitangan.com is also the perfect platform to ensure your employee’s happiness and job satisfaction. What do I mean by this? Let’s take birthdays for an example. Birthdays of each employee are synced in the calendar, giving your team the opportunity to bond together and to plan things in advance. Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too?

On top of that, Kakitangan.com is also the platform to buy birthday cakes, flowers, team lunches and activities and a corporate gym membership. This definitely improves your employees’ well-being in the company.

3. It’s SME friendly

Yes, although there are plenty of different HR platforms out there, a big problem especially for a small and growing business is that they are quite technical, expensive, or have features that does not suit SMEs. Kakitangan.com is really designed with the SMEs in mind. I am able to start utilizing the leave and payroll system in minutes and for free! For a nominal price, you get the payroll system too! You can’t get any better than that!

So, there you have it! Whether you’re just starting out with a few employees or you have a larger team with you, always remember that your employees are your greatest assets.

From paper leave forms and manual payroll processes, it’s baffling to know that a lot of companies are still applying HR practices from 40 years ago! It’s time to do things better and more efficiently. And with the help of Kakitangan.com, you will see your company becoming better and your business grow faster! Create a system for your company today at Kakitangan.com and become a better company!

It’s time to change!

Kakitangan is effective in helping a company to save time and money. It is super efficient and organised in its on way. Find out more now!

Skyrocketing Malaysian Cancer Rates

Skyrocketing Malaysian Cancer Rates

Skyrocketing Malaysian Cancer Rates

Malaysian cancer numbers have been seeing a year on year increase according to Malaysian National Cancer registry.

Cancer is currently the third most common cause of death in Malaysia, following circulatory system disease and respiratory diseases, accounting for close to 14% of deaths in Malaysian ministry of health hospitals.

People diagnosed with cancer

cancer go completely unrecorded

Nearly 40,000 people are recorded to be diagnosed with cancer every year, and it’s estimated that another 10,000 cases of cancer go completely unrecorded. One in four Malaysians will likely be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 75.

Billions of dollars have been poured into cancer research and the scientific community have unanimously declared that the only way to decrease the risk of cancer is through making healthy lifestyle choices and being consistent in their implementation.

AIA Vitality rewards those who live healthy lifestyles and protect themselves against the dangers of cancer with tips like these

Eat More Plant-Based Food

I’m Ms. Filter, your liver

There isn’t a miracle cure-all food that one can eat to prevent or fight cancer on its own. However, a veggie and fruit based diet can help lower your risk for many types of cancer.

These foods are rich in nutrients that can boost your immune system and help protect against cancer cells. Fruits and vegetables are great sources of antioxidants like vitamin C and E that ensure the cells in your body function properly.

Plant based diets are also high in fiber, which can help you cleanse your digestive tract, moving cancer-causing compounds before they can create harm. This mainly prevents digestive cancers such as colo-rectal, larynx and stomach cancer.

I’m Ms. Filter, your liver

Less Sugary Drinks, More Green Tea

I’m Ms. Filter, your liver

Sugar filled beverages have been ingrained into the Malaysian culture as much as not using a signal light and fake accents. But sugar has been known to contribute to the development of cancer cells.

Instead, stay home and brew a cup of green tea, because the chemical makeup of green tea blocks the formation of new blood vessels that cancer cells need to feed themselves with.

Green tea also boosts the immune system, triggering enzymes in our body that helps to protect against cancer cell formation.

Amp up the cardio

I’m Mr. Fresh, your lungs

Regular physical activity can help the digestive system, leading to regular bowel movements. This can cause cancerous substances in undigested food to pass through the bowels quickly.

Exercise can also decrease inflammation of the bowels. While inflammation of the bowels is a normal occurrence, cancer cells are created when mutations occur during the multiplication process, and inflammation can cause the cell multiplication process to happen too quickly,  leaving for more room for mutation.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women and scientists have linked it to  the overabundance of oestrogen. Exercise decreases the amount of oestrogen in a woman’s body, and studies have found that women who exercise have a 30 to 40 percent lower risk of breast cancer.

I’m Mr. Fresh, your lungs

I’m Mr. Tum, your tummy

Don’t stuff yourself

I’m Mr. Tum, your tummy

20% of all cancers are found to be caused by obesity according to the world cancer research fund. In fact, body fatness has one of the strongest links to cancers of the breast, colon, esophagus, kidney and pancreas.

Whether directly or indirectly, being overweight unquestionably contributes to the risk of cancer by weakening a persons immune system and making him or her unable to fend off the growing cancerous cells.

While prevention is always better than a cure, we should also stay safe by protecting ourselves against the risks of cancer.

A-Life Cancer 360 is a complete cancer protection plan that provides coverage throughout all stages of cancer, when paired together with AIA Vitality, customers will be awarded with a 50% yearly cash bonus!

The number of gout patients is on the rise, especially often seen in the middle aged men. The outbreak usually starts at the lower limb joints (especially the big toes and knees), which causing swelling, redness, burning pain and other symptoms which attack repeatedly and produce severe pain.

When uric acid concentration exceeds the normal level, it forms as sodium salt and deposits into the joints, soft tissues, cartilages and kidneys, creating tissue inflammatory reactions which are the main cause of gout. If not treated early and completely, things will be getting worse with joint swelling, deformity, stiffness and nodules before becoming kidney stones, renal failure, coronary heart disease, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, urinary tract stones and other organ dysfunction, all which will pose a serious threat to the patient’s life.

Although gout cases are not reported frequently, there are far more patients than you might believe. The most well known one is Hong Kong entertainer Eric Tsang, who was previously photographed using a wheelchair to move around because he couldn’t use his legs. It’s later confirmed that his love for drinking was what caused him to suffer from gout in the first place.

Malaysian chef Ismail Ahmad also suffered from gout and used it as inspiration for his cooking. Since then, he has made big changes in his restaurant’s menu, reducing meat and increasing vegetables so that the customers are able to enjoy a healthy and delicious dining experience.

In fact, cases of gout often occur all around us, but reports on this topic are limited. Furthermore, general public tends to ignore it simply because they have very little knowledge about gout. If we continue to ignore this illness and remain ignorant of how serious it is, society will eventually be filled with gout sufferers.

Defeating gout is something that we need to start as soon as possible. If you or your loved ones are feeling symptoms of gout, you should seek immediate medical attention in order to deal with this illness before it can get too far.
